"Freshman year I joined HOSA because my brother was in it and he bragged about how he was going to HOSA State. So being the man I am I joined HOSA right away and went to State’s as a conference page. The next year I joined HOSA. I went to the meetings and worked at the blood drives. Again I went to State’s. In all honesty I did none of this to get volunteer hours or look good for colleges. I just did it because I thought it was fun. That was also the year I ran for an officer position. Mrs. Sapp asked me what I wanted to do. I told her I wanted the position with no work and she said that, that wasn’t happening. So, I ran for Committee Chairman. I choose it at random from the list of available positions. No clue what I was supposed to do. The next year I went to “all” the meetings. I went to the outside of school events and the in-school events that were held. Next year I plan to do the same but also run for a regional position. I told you about all that because being in HOSA is not that hard and do able. I also took every honors class I could. But back on point, being a HOSA officer will help you in many ways. First and most obvious is that it will look good on college applications. More and more these days colleges want to see more than just good grades. They also want to see extracurricular activities, volunteer work, and community involvement. And Mrs. Sapp can hook you up with all that. For National Honor Society I received over twenty hours alone from HOSA. So it’s an excellent source of volunteer work. It is also an excellent way to meet new people and get involved with your community. You can do all that just as a member. The big difference is that as an officer you can become more involved. You have the chance to be more involved in the planning and follow through of the events in HOSA. For people who enjoy doing projects because, you get to create something and see it in action, HOSA would be great for you. Or even if don’t want to do side projects you can pair up with another officer who does and help. In summation being an officer isn’t too bad and pretty fun. By the way officer applications are in Mrs. Sapp’s room and please apply by May 10th."
